A pretty good analysis - except for one problem - on the Savage PRI stands for PRIME as in fill up the carb with gasoline when the bike has been sitting for a long period of time and the gasoline in the float chamber has all evaporated.

The arrow should be pointing at "ON" when the bike is running.

If the fuel delivery system is not working properly - especially if there is a crack or a leak in the vacuum lines to the fuel petcock, you can run the bike in the PRI position - but if you leave it parked with PRI selected you run the risk of returning to a bike with an empty gas tank. In the PRI position, the float is holding the weight of the gasoline back something it is not engineered to do.

The fuel tap on the Savage is a bit odd - and many wish that it was of a different style and variety without the vacuum pressure control. There are other bikes that use a vacuum controlled valve so it is not unique to the Savage.

However, when it is working it works flawlessly over long periods of time.

Hope this helps clarify things a bit
